Our Village
Kirby Hill is a small rural village approximately one mile north of the market town of Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire. Formerly known as Kirby-on-the-Moor, the village is surrounded by open countryside on 3 sides and affords long-range views towards the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. The picture shows an aerial view of the village taken from the west.
The Grade 1 listed church of All Saints, Kirby-on-the-Moor is over 1,000 years old. Kirby Hill Church of England Primary School has an excellent reputation and a brand new school building, opened in June 2002. The village pub is the Blue Bell Inn on Leeming Lane, where you can be sure of a warm welcome, good food and a range of guest beers. Kirby Hill has its own distinct identity, community and sense of place - separate from the market town of Boroughbridge yet within a mile of its many facilities. We hope you enjoy using this website to find out more about our vibrant community.

Council Response to Boroughbridge Waste Transfer Site Planning Application
Proposals have recently been submitted for a Waste Transfer Site directly adjacent to our Community Hall at Milby and sharing an access with it. The proposals are for a large site for processing and crushing waste. This would involve 70 HGV vehicle movements per day, 5.5 days per week, carrying commercial and industrial waste into and out of the entrance to Coronation Hall off Milby Lane. Approximately 60% of the lorries would route through the centre of Boroughbridge and 40% along Leeming Lane to Kirby Hill and the Ripon Road roundabout. Kirby Hill & District Parish Council has written a letter objecting to these proposals which can be found here. Objections must be made by 25th December 2007. Click here to review details of the planning application and find out how to object (you can object online by filling in the form here). Please add your voice and object now.
No Motorway Services Here - OFFICIAL
Since 1996, a developer has been trying to obtain planning permission to build motorway services in the beautiful countryside north of our village. Kirby Hill & District Parish Council and Kirby Hill RAMS (Residents Against Motorway Services) mounted a major campaign to fight the proposed motorway service area. 730 local residents signed-up to support the RAMS. Detailed evidence was prepared and presented to a Public Inquiry. Now the Secretary of State has concluded that planning permission for motorway services at Kirby Hill should be refused and the developer has withdrawn the application. Click here for details.
Planning applications, roads and pavements in Kirby Hill, trees and verges, the Village Green, neighbourhood watch schemes, dog wardens, traffic problems, a children's play area, anti-social behaviour, crime, the future development of Kirby Hill and Boroughbridge - these are all issues that the Parish Council is involved with and discusses regularly.
