Kirby Hill

Motorway Service Area

Recent changes in government guidance on the provision of motorway service areas (April 2008) mean that we will be submitting a fresh planning application for the Motorway Service Area at Kirby Hill. Click here to see an aerial photograph of the proposed site.

This presents an opportunity to complete the core network of MSAs in a manner that will best meet the needs of the travelling public.

We have taken careful note of the views expressed both by the Inspectors at the previous public inquiries and the residents of Kirby Hill.

In-line with government policy, the latest proposals are for a smaller and enhanced scheme. Click here to see an illustrative sketch of the proposed Motorway Services.

The key changes since the previous scheme are as follows:

  • No overnight accommodation or "lodge"
  • Amenity buildings relocated to increase separation from Kirby Hill
  • More comprehensive landscaping and screen mounding
  • Sustainable building design
  • Facilities limited to those essential for motorway users
  • No access for pedestrians or vehicles from the local road network

We will be holding an exhibition of our plans in the meeting room above Boroughbridge Town Library from Tuesday 19th August until Tuesday 16th September, as part of our formal consultation with the local community. The exhibition opening times are as follows:

  • Mondays: 2pm to 5pm (except Mon 25-Aug which is a Bank Holiday)
  • Tuesdays & Fridays: 2pm to 7pm
  • Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays: 10am to 1pm

Please come to the exhibition and/or fill-in one of our consultation response forms. We would welcome your views on the current illustrative sketch proposal, which represents work in progress.

Please click here to e-mail us your comments. Remember to include your full name and address in the e-mail. A copy of your comments will automatically be sent to Kirby Hill & District Parish Council, who have asked to be kept informed of community responses to the proposal. If you prefer not to e-mail, consultation response forms are available at the exhibition, you can download and print an online (PDF) version here, or you can simply write to us at: Heather Ive Associates, Kirby Hill MSA Consultation, c/o Martin Rae, Tinkler Cottage, Milby, Boroughbridge, YO51 9HQ.

The deadline for consultation responses is 7th October 2008.
