



Kirby Hill, or Kirby-on-the-Moor as it was known, is an ancient village. There has been a settlement here for more than 1,000 years. The Roman road known as Dere Street passes 300 yards east of the village. Armies have come and gone through our open landscape, including the army of Sir Andrew Harcla, which mustered near the village prior to the battle of Boroughbridge in 1322, where the rebel Earl of Lancaster was intercepted and defeated as he fled north.
